Honors students are required to take a minimum of two hours of department honors courses to complete their requirements for graduation. Honors caliber work is typically expected to develop superior writing, reading, speaking, and analytical skills. The following options have been designed to assist departments and faculty to provide honors courses due to the diversity of areas within the college:
- Departments that regularly have enough honors students to create an honors course should submit course proposals to the Honors Council and then through the COEHP Course and Program Committee (CCPC).
- Departments that have small numbers of honors students not justifying development of a separate course may make arrangements through the Boyer Center for Student Services to have an honors section added to a current course. A proposal for the honors section should be submitted to the Office of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs with an explanation of how the honors section differs from the regular section of the course. The Boyer Center for Student Services' staff will be responsible for creating this section number in conjunction with the Registrar’s Office.
- Students may petition to take an honors course within another department in the COEHP to substitute for the departmental honors course requirement. The honors student's faculty advisor and the Honors Council must approve petitions.
