The Honors Thesis/Project should demonstrate the student's best scholarly work. On beginning the project the student should determine to engage in careful planning, thorough research, thoughtful analysis, and exceptional writing.
The student should select a faculty mentor on the basis of the faculty’s expertise in the area(s) in which the student wishes to complete the project. The student should choose a faculty mentor during the second semester of their sophomore year or early in the junior year.
Once the faculty member has agreed to supervise the honors student’s study, the student should enroll in the Honors Thesis Tutorial/Project course (HNED 3001H). On completion of the course, the Honors Thesis/Project Proposal Form, and seven copies of the proposal abstract should be submitted to COEHP Honors Council for approval. Students are encouraged to complete the Thesis/Project Tutorial course no later than the last semester of the junior year. A copy of the Thesis/Project Proposal Form and a copy of the proposal abstract will be filed in the Office of the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs.

The honors student should adhere closely to the thesis timetable agreed upon for each stage of the project and should be prepared for the regular meetings with the faculty mentor and/or committee.
The student's thesis/project must be academically honest and in full compliance with the ethical guidelines of the student's discipline. The student must avoid plagiarism and misrepresentation of data or information. For research projects using human participants or animals, students must comply fully with their discipline's guidelines and university regulations regarding test subjects and ethical treatment of humans and animals.
The final Thesis/Project, including all revisions, must be completed at least two weeks before the end of the term in which the student expects to graduate. Upon completion of the thesis, the student will submit the final Honors Thesis/Project Approval Form to the Thesis/Project Committee and seven copies of the completed Thesis/Project to the COEHP Honors Council for approval. One copy will be filed in the Office of the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs.
The student will make an oral presentation of the Thesis/Project as indicated under the thesis requirements.
