COEHP Honors Program

The following course requirements apply only to students admitted Fall 2008 and later. Course requirements for those admitted prior to Fall 2008 are here.

The course requirements for completion of the College of Education and Health Professions Honors Program are as follows:

The student meets all university, COEHP, and department degree requirements.

  1. Minimum completion of 12 hours of honors credit, six of which may be taken outside the COEHP. The following courses are required:
    • 6 hours honors sections of University courses
    • 6 hours honors sections of classes taken within the COEHP including:
      • HNED 3001 H Honors Education Thesis Tutorial
      • HNED 400v H Honors Education Thesis/Project (total of 3 hours minimum) 
      • Minimum of 2 hours of honors courses from the student's academic department
  2. Written submission of the honors thesis/project to the COEHP Honors Council and oral presentation of the Honors Thesis to faculty and students in the COEHP (arranged by the Honors Council).
  3. Graduation with a minimum GPA of 3.50.

COEHP Scholars Program

The COEHP Scholars Program provides an honors program for students of superior academic talent. The course requirements for completion of the College of Education and Health Professions Scholars Program are as follows:

The student meets all university, COEHP, and department degree requirements.

  1. Minimum completion of 24 hours of honors credit, 6-18 of which may be taken outside the COEHP. The following courses are required:
    • 18 hours honors sections at least 6 hours should come from University courses
    • 6 hours minimum in honors sections of classes taken within the COEHP including:
      • HNED 3001 H Honors Education Thesis Tutorial
      • HNED 400v H Honors Education Thesis/Project (total of 3 hours minimum)
      • Minimum of 2 hours of honors courses from the student's academic department
  2. Written submission of the honors thesis/project to the COEHP Honors Council and oral presentation of the Honors Thesis to faculty and students in the COEHP (arranged by the Honors Council).
  3. Graduation with a minimum GPA of 3.50.

Students successfully completing either the Honors or Scholars program within COEHP are eligible to receive a baccalaureate degree with a distinction of:

Summa Cum Laude will be awarded honors students graduating with a GPA > 3.9.
Magna Cum Laude will be awarded honors students graduating with a GPA > 3.7.
Cum Laude will be awarded honors students graduating with a GPA > 3.5.
